Laura Ashley, contemporary and stylish, who knew!

I spent yesterday afternoon with Anne, the lovely Store Manager of Laura Ashley in Ilkley. I have frequently shopped in the store and recommended it to clients, so it was very to get a personal tour of the store and hear all about how they operate.

The quintessentially English brand has a fantastic collection of clothes such beautiful Christmas cashmere jumpers and gorgeous winter coats to suit all ages. Not to mention their contemporary home furnishing range, all of which reflect the romantic, vintage personality and heritage of the amazing businesswoman who started it all in her living room 60 years ago.

My favourite items has to be this is winter floral print top which shows off what they do best at a fantastic value for money, only £35. Sold!

Makeover time for mum and daugher duo!

Gail escaped her farmyard chores and three children for the day, along with her mum Brenda, to pamper themselves with a Colour, Make-up and Style session.

Gail, a Soft, now knows how to have less contrast in her look which will be easy with her lovely Neat Hourglass figure, always showing off her waist. And mum Brenda had beautiful Cool tones in her hair, and a Rectangle body shape with great legs which she needs to start showing off!

Fizz and Betty’s treats helped keep our energy levels up throughout the day!

Keep warm this winter with faux fur

I had to de-ice my car window this morning which means it’s actually officially cold now! So, I’ve pulled out of my wardrobe my mother’s silver fox coat which I try not to feel guilty about because it’s a hand me down and I didn’t actually buy it …!

If you don’t have/want one of these , you can keep warm this winter with amazing faux fur pieces that are affordable and easy to wear. You don’t have to have a Creative style personality to wear this look, instead add bits as accessories rather than wearing it head to toe.

This is a big trend this season’s as seen on the catwalk. I love this little red body warmer and bag to match by Holly Fulton.

You can treat yourself to a faux fur hat from Accessorise for £25, or splash out with gloves from Ted Baker at £79.

It’s all about looking back to nature this season!

Pretty in a Pink coat!

So, you’ll already have your standard winter coat from last year, or a few season’s ago. It’s probably a neutral colour, grey, black or navy and that’s good, keep it. Wear it another year because they’re expensive and can definitely be brought back to life again. No one will know the difference!

But if you want some retail therapy and feel the need to purchase a new coat this year, go for one in an accent colour. And why not be on trend with the massive selection of pink ones out there. They beat the text book red and purple coats, unless you’re a Warm, then they’ll always look better on you!

Pink 4

Influenced by the 1980’s film Pretty in Pink, the AW catwalks featured pink in all it’s hues as a big colour story. From Antipodium and John Rocha to PPQ, Rosksanda llincic and Simone Rocha – my personal favourite. This fuschia coat I saw at London Fashion Weekend would look fabulous on Cools, Clears and Deeps.

If you’re lighter in colouring i.e. Lights and Softs, try something a little more subtle and team it with some of your other best colours.

For a full range of pink coats, check out the Never Under Dressed website where their team have reviewed the market’s best pink coats, and selected their top 80 favourites. Just watch out for the cocoon coat craze, you need to be petite for tis otherwise you’ll look like Stay Puffed!
